Favour is the open door that no man can shut!

And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, a placewhere the king's prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.

21 But the Lord was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave himfavour in the sight of the keeper of the prison. 22 And the keeper of theprison committed to Joseph's hand all the prisoners that were in the prison;and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it. 23 The keeper of theprison looked not to any thing that was under his hand; because the Lord waswith him, and that which he did, the Lord made it to prosper. Genesis39:20-23

In this passage Joseph prospered in prison because God gave him favour with the prison keeper. The passage is loaded with lessons about the favour of God as follows:

Favour is linked to sight and perception. It occurs when someone sees you in a favorable way.

…gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison…

Notice that favour was in the prison keeper’s sight. In other words God caused him to see Joseph in a favorable way. It does not saythat everyone viewed Joseph in a favorable way; only the keeper of the prison. It is quite possible that the other inmates viewed Joseph with contempt for two reasons: The nature of his alleged crimes and his promotion to a management role.

    The disease to please

It is simple not necessary for everyone to view you favourably. In fact it is critical that some people view you negatively. Where would you be without enemies? Joseph would have stayed in Canaan with his father were it not for the conspiracy of his brethren. Moses would probably have become the next pharaoh were it not for a warrant out for his arrest. Daniel would never have seen the inside of a lions den were it not for enemies and Jesus would not have gone to the cross for us without the influence of enemies. You need enemies as much as you need friends.

Many do not experience Divine favour because they are infected with the disease to please. They need affirmation and approval from everyone and don’t understand that God will only give you favour with key people. A key person is the person that has the keys to your destiny or a person that can open a door for you.

    Key people

You are a key person for someone else and someone else is a key person for you. There are some people who will never find an exit from bondage or an entrance to promise until they meet you, because you are a key person for them. Likewise there are some seasons that will not change for you until you meet a key person. A careful study of your life will show that all opportunities come out of relationships with key people.  In this respect, key people are the only people that really matter when it comes to your destiny.

Please don’t spend another day, seeking the approval or affirmation of people who don’t really matter. Don’t spend money you don’t have buying things you don’t need to impress people you don’t like. Divine favour does not require a consensus. It is not democratic and no one gets to vote on your success. Only the key person really matters.

    The key or the crowd

This raises another important issue: Do you want favour with the crowd or with the key? The one may cost you the other.

And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men;but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God. Luke 16:15

If you choose the crowd (disease to please everyone) you may never find the key. But if you choose the key you will eventually find the crowd. The doorways of destiny will open for those who recognise key people and who are recognised by them. The implications here are staggering:

If someone does not recognise your potential; it is because they are not a key person in your life. They may be a key for somebody else;but not for you! In this case you will have to move on in the knowledge that the key people in your life will always recognise you because God will cause them to see things in and about you that the others fail to see.

Understanding this principle should save you time and money that you would lose trying to impress people who cannot open a doorway of destiny for you.

    The science of favour

Divine favour occurs when God informs the beliefs of others about you. It happens when God shapes the perception of you in the mind of a key person. He simply plants an image of you in the heart of those who can open doors for your destiny so that they see in you what others have failed to see and what you have often not seen in yourself.

    ·     The prison keeper saw something in Joseph that others could not see.

    ·     King Ahasurus saw something in Esther that the others could not see

    ·     King Darius saw something in Daniel that the princes could not see

    ·     King Artexerces saw something in Nehemiah that the others could not see

Favour is not the same as everyone liking you. In fact the favour of God will create more enemies in your life than friends. Jealousy and outrage may be the initial fruit of favour in those who feel more qualified than you. However, that same favour will eventually create perceptions of you with your enemies as it does with your friends.

For example: Gideon defeated the hosts of Midian with an army of just 300 men. The fact is that his men did not need to fight because the battle was won before they got there. God simply informed the beliefs of the Midianites about Gideon and planted an image of Gideon in their dreams. They were terrified of him before he arrived and believed things about him that he struggled to believe about himself. No sense fearing your enemies when God has put the fear of you upon them. This is another form of favour because it is God changing the perceptions of others about you!

There shall no man be able to stand before you: for the Lord your God shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you upon all the land that ye shall tread upon, as he hath said unto you. Deuteronomy 11:25
